Hi! I am Tanya, a single, (divorced), proud mom of three amazing young ladies (31, 15, and 12) and one angel baby; who was born sleeping at 20 weeks. Being a mom is the greatest motivating factor in my life. I love all things crafting, organizing, planning, networking, children's party prepping, education and Jesus!
I entered the field of education as a College Admissions Counselor and Recruiter, 27 years ago and made the connections of a LIFETIME; did I say I love to network? Oh yeah I think I did... Because of that experience I became a Professional School Counselor and it was one of the best decisions ever! While working as a School Counselor, I traveled across the country conducting a series of workshops on test taking strategies, career development, etiquette, self-esteem, the scholarship search, college preparation and selection, and study skills. This afforded me the opportunity to view schools across the country, work with a variety of parents and acquire a body of knowledge to better serve students and their families. Over the years I presented at conferences across the country for national organizations such as 100 Black Men of America, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Jack & Jill of America, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and for the Southeast Region Trio Programs, I even had the incredible opportunity to appear on several educational segments for WXIA-TV (Atlanta's NBC affiliate).
Most exciting was presenting my research on developing “School Safety and Crisis Plans for Virtual Schools” to educational representatives from virtual schools across the world at the 2016 iNACOL Conference held in Orlando, FL. To say, I learned invaluable lessons along the way is an understatement.
I have also planned a number of events for both large and small organizations and school districts. Over the years, I have come across many resources and persons who have been able to assist me and I am eager to share them with you.
My reason for starting The Parent Portal was to have a place where parents could come to not only receive resources but to share resources. I wanted a place where we could talk, be open, and know that we are not alone, we can definitely do this together. Basically, we need a village, we need to be real, open and honest with each other. By sharing the good days and the bad we know, as parents, we are not alone and it will get better! I hope you enjoy your time in The Portal, the realness, and the resources.
